>> Bridgman P4 for rescheduled round 3 at Monza | Monza | 06 July 2005
There are many reasons Tim Bridgman is anticipating competing in the British Formula 3 at Monza, which commences with testing on Friday. “I’m excited about being part of this big weekend on the Italian motorsport calendar,” he said. But beyond just enjoying racing at the celebrated circuit, Bridgman is also aiming to score championship points. “I’m looking forward to a successful weekend where I come away with some good results,” said the 20-year-old from Essex. Bridgman looks set to augur in the three Formula 3 races by doing just that. He starts from P4 in the first race at Monza, a round three race carried over due to foggy weather at the Spa circuit earlier in the 2005 championship.

This is Bridgman’s first time racing at the Italian track and his half-a-dozen or so pre-testing laps on a moped around the 3.6 mile course is only part of his preparation. Last week he drove his Hitech Racing car configured to Monza specifications. “We tested with the Monza set-up at Pembrey. It is much more of a challenge to drive and I’m looking forward to the occasion,” said Bridgman.

The high-speed autodrome, situated in the Parco di Monza just outside Milan, is recognised as a classic in motor racing and should be an intriguing test for the F3 drivers. The cars will have minimal wing and therefore grip levels will be dramatically reduced. “It is an interesting track and the car will need good traction. There are slow speed chicanes and with no wing it will feel very different. It’s a matter of being good on the brakes and getting the power down out of the slow corners,” Bridgman said after discussing the circuit with his manager Mark Blundell.

The Italian circuit is one of four outside Great Britain hosting British F3 rounds. Ireland, Belgium and Germany are the nations playing host to the other three British F3 weekends held offshore this year.
