>> Bridgman shifts into Mondello mode

09 September 2005
The British Formula 3 International Series has its second fly-away meeting in succession when rounds 19 and 20 take place at Mondello Park in Ireland on the 1718 September. Essex driver Tim Bridgman is looking forward to racing on the winding track, where he had two podium finishes in the Formula BMW series last year.
Bridgman says: I had a good weekend, with a couple of podiums, we were quick there. Its the kind of circuit that you either enjoy or you dislike, and there are definitely some Mondello specialists out there.
The Hitech driver says he is feeling upbeat after two respectable point finishes at Nürburgring last weekend. I feel good after Germany, the points were nice and I think my attitude is quite positive.
Asked if the intensity of the British F3 Series has abated due to the champion being determined at Nürburging, Brigdman disagrees: There is only one champion but everyone else is still sparring for the minor placings and the fight is just as hard, he says. People still want to try and finish in the top three. I think the racing is going to be quite hard and tough, so it will be a good weekend for everyone.
Bridgman is glad to have the experience of racing there previously and is prepared for the unrelenting corners of the Irish circuit: It is a good challenge to drive and quite physically taxing, he comments. You have to put in a lot of effort to get a good lap time; you cant just sit back as it wont come to you. It keeps you very busy with all the successive corners and can get very intense as there are no breaks.
As the season winds to a close, the 20-year-old is looking forward to crossing the Irish Sea for the event, saying he appreciates the travel. Its nice to be travelling around a lot, obviously it is a big part of the high-level racing to which F3 drivers aspire, so I think it is good for a driver to experience these things as early as possible, it puts you in good stead for the next few years.
Qualifying for the weekends F3 events is at 11:00 and 14:35 on Saturday followed by races at 11:15 and 15:30 on Sunday 18 September.
