>>Brilliance in qualifying by Bridgman | 21 May 2006
Monterrey, Mexico - 21 May 2006: Tim Bridgman took his best qualifying result of the year in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, with a sixth-place start from a field of two-dozen fronting up for the Mexican event. Clocking a time of just under 1.24 seconds around the 2.104 mile circuit, Bridgman was just 0.78 seconds off the leader in the third round of the championship.

“The car was spot on for qualifying, the set-up suits the circuit really well, and I’m very happy to be in sixth for the start of the race,” said Bridgman after the two combined qualifying sessions.

In the race on Sunday, Bridgman got away to an excellent start and gained one place on the 12-turn road circuit in Monterrey, Mexico, with the temporary street track at Fundidora Park in the north of the country providing a hot, slippery race for the drivers over the smooth, level circuit.

After running with the leaders for the first half of the race, , Bridgman was unable to convert his earlier hard work into a solid finish as he retired on lap 17 of the 32 lap race when the throttle-stop broke on the car. “It was an unlucky outcome, but we showed we have the pace and it’s a great positive to come out of the weekend. I’m now looking forward to racing next month in Portland, Oregon, where I think we’ll be able to demonstrate our speed again,” said the Dunmow driver.
