Tim Bridgman (Dunmow, Essex) finished fourth in the final race of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. In a strong performance from the back of a 15-car grid, Bridgman gained eleven positions to finish just out of the podium places.
The 20-year-old said he was extremely happy with the drive and expressed a sincere and elated thank you to the organisers of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Autosport for the opportunity to participate in the final round of the series. “It was a fantastic car to drive and it was awesome to be part of the series. I would like to extend a very appreciative thank you to Porsche and Autosport for making it possible.”
Driving the Porsche 911GT3 Cup car at Brands Hatch GP circuit for the first time, Bridgman qualified eighth on Saturday before complications in the formation lap and clutch problems saw the driver retiring from the first race on Sunday. Nonetheless, Bridgman set the tone for the pace he would demonstrate in the second race by being one of the few drivers who made a sub-1.32 lap time.
In race two, Bridgman started from the back of the grid due to his dnf in the previous race. Putting his speed to his advantage, by lap one he had moved up to seventh and then in lap two quickly into fourth, where he remained until the close of the race.
Bridgman said he got out of the car with a smile on his face. “I had a really great start and a good first corner which continued into the second turn where I made a couple of places,” he said. “The second lap was great too, allowing me to catch a few more drivers. I was able to maintain the pace until the end. It’s a nice solid result and I’m pretty happy.”
Bridgman, who has won two championships in single-seater series and is usually found behind the wheel of a Formula 3 car, said he found driving the Porsche 911GT3 a tremendous adrenalin rush. “The car was great to drive, very consistent over the whole race, and it helped as Brands Hatch is a challenging circuit that calls for a lot of work from the driver.”
The next race for Bridgman will be at Silverstone for the final rounds of the British Formula 3 series, taking place this upcoming weekend (8/9 October).
