>>Grand Prix of Houston Preview | 08 May 2006
The Champ Car Atlantic Championship looks set to continue its exciting start to the season, which saw almost 30 competitors pitched in an exhilarating battle at the Long Beach circuit in California. With round 2, the Fast Trac 100 at the Grand Prix of Houston, taking place at Houston’s temporary street course on 13 May, Dunmow’s Tim Bridgman keenness to return Stateside to resume racing is palpable.

Bridgman added that Texas is a fantastic place to be holding a race: he tested at Houston’s Motor Sports Ranch in February and, although that particular road course is not hosting the race, the 20-year-old commented that it was great taste of what to expect on this weekend.

The actual street circuit for the Grand Prix of Houston is a new addition to the Atlantics calendar and Bridgman believes this will help level out the field: “We're all racing there for the first time so that means no one’s got a distinct advantage in that respect: us rookies and the guys who are in their second or third year of Atlantic racing alike, we’re all be learning the course in order to get up to speed as quickly as possible.”

But the Epson Team Jensen driver agreed that the opening race was the best preparation he could have had for the precise, thrilling nature of street racing. “Now I have had my first street race, I feel I have learnt a massive amount about what is basically a different discipline of motor sport,” said the driver who ran as high as third over the course of the first race weekend. “I’m looking to use this extra knowledge to put in a solid performance across the event and get the ball rolling as far as the championship is concerned and as always it will be nice to see everyone at Epson Team Jensen again.”

Round 2 of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship is the Fast Trac 100 at the Grand Prix of Houston and will be held May 11-13. For further details and a live video stream of the race go to www.champcaratlantic.com
